As designers, photography is important to you on a variety of levels. From taking great photos to include in your scrapbooks … to taking excellent project photos to submit to publications and design team calls, photos are a big part of our lives!
As we heard in our “behind the scenes” articles and as Stephanie Hunt at Bella Blvd says, “A bad photo of a great project will not make it stand out.”
Today we are participating in a blog hop & giveaway to promote the newest Creating Keepsakes special edition publication, Better Digital Photos & Scrapbooking.
The first half of the issue is chock full of tips on how to take better photos …. and the second half of the issue shares LOADS of easy photo editing techniques from photoshop elements and other photo editing programs to help you make the most of your photos. A great resource!
Here you can take a ‘sneak peek’ of the publication to check out some of the content …

looks great!
Great publication! Would love to learn more about lighting and props
Biggest challenge is capturing natural light while still having great color of the objects I am taking pictures of.
I think “staging” my projects is my biggest challenge. I am blessed with the ability to use natural lighting the majority of the time, but still, my projects don’t “pop” when I get them finalized.
My biggest challenge is taking the time to remember how to use the settings on my camera!
I always have trouble with the lighting…………..
Natural lighting is so hard because I usually only have time for staging projects at night. I would love to learn more about using my camera in manual mode too. Thanks!
I think my biggest challenges are lighting and remembering how to use the settings on my camera! Thanks to you and CK for offering a chance to win this one! It looks like it will have a lot of great information! ~Bev~
My biggest obstacle is that I got my first DSLR for my bday this last weekend and i have no idea how to use it to it’s potential. I am facing a major learning curve but so excited to climb it!
My biggest challenge is using the correct settings for different environments.
My biggest challenge is getting the correct lighting on indoor shots without using a flash and only my nikon D80.
My biggest challenge is the most effective way to capture lighting to make the most of coloring.
This is a great book, that I MUST have!
My biggest problem is lighting. I just can’t seem to find lights that don’t yellow out my projects… I’ve tried different bulbs and different diffusing materials with not such good luck, so if I don’t have natural light coming in, the pics aren’t superb.
I have a dslr camera but haven’t ventured out of automatic yet. Thanks for the chance to win. Kait
cant wait to see this issue looks like it will be great
I have a hard time taking pictures of layouts, without getting glare from the pictures.
I have trouble getting the “right” photo of my children in action. they move so fast and I never seem to have the right settings.

What a great new publication! Great idea. Now my biggest challenge in photography is lighting, I try to get the balance right but a lot of my photos are taken in low light as I don’t have much space *sigh* I’ll get there one day
I need to work on ISO, f stop, etc. Perhaps some composition, also.
Thanks for the chance to win. I can’t wait to read this issue!
Biggest challenge…not knowing how to use manual mode! I use auto and pre-settings only. I have no idea what all the other camera lingo even really means. HELP!!!
My biggest challenge right now is fixing dog’s eyes from flash. They may be green, blue or yellow. Very challenging and I haven’t found a good fix yet. Also, I have tried to do better a cropping pictures as I take them, but then they may not fit where I want them because there isn’t anything to crop.
It’d be getting off auto! Then lighting, then editing!
My biggest challenge is to much light.
My biggest challenge is trying to take photos too quickly and thus not taking the time to find the right settings to put everything on because I don’t know enough about my camera and then I make photo subject impatient. Thus I end up taking lots of shots, hoping for one or two decent ones out of a huge number of blurry ones.
My biggest challenge is taking good night photos.
My biggest challenge is trying to remember how to change the settings on my camera to the ones appropriate for the photo I want to take. I like to take candid photos of my grandchildren, but by the time I flip through the settings, the moment is lost.
